Great… another Language.

Does this make me bilingual?

I would say sadly not, but then again I feel like I could argue against that. Anyways, that isn’t the reason I brought up this “beautiful” language that could possibly propose the idea that I am indeed bilingual, but rather that the world of writing has become yet again even more advanced.

In the weeks prior, we mentioned this beautiful little thing called HTML. Yes, that. And in the mist of all of my confusion and my brain nearly melting down to a pulp after the information overload that is somehow considered “normal”, it only got more in depth. This time, I mine as well be apart of the matrix, because this code [HTML] has a friend named CSS.

CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets, and honestly it sounds just like it acts. It styles pre-existing sheets. Without CSS, HTML is that basic white paper we used to write on in middle and high school. Or for the younger generation, the Word doc. Which by no means, there is nothing wrong with either, but when it comes to pushing a juicy article with a riveting story, people are going to be looking for more than just the simple paper like article. CSS is where the fun is added.

CSS “style” is intended to lighten up the dim old paper. This can include color, moving images like GIF’s or even videos, audio files along with video files without actually interfering with the original html file itself. Nice HTML is the “backbone” of every website available to the human touch, or click, CSS is designed only to work accordingly. Every color, video, possible image even border is because of CSS

Now, I won’t get into it much, but CSS does hold a lot more than just the basics that I listed above. CSS holds font properties, and these things called selectors. I am going to be frank, I don’t understand what selectors do much, and how they operate but, they hold a lot of value when it comes to CSS and how it works around the mainframe of HTML.

Without CSS, you will have a hard time “spicing” up your paper to be exactly what you intended it to look like just as the big bros out in the world like CNN, FOX, and WSJ and other major corporations that also use some CSS or something with the same mechanism.

Even though you have this not so positive attitude when it comes to HTML and CSS, I like that you still managed to hit some key elements about CSS here. I struggled for this week’s post with how I could go about talking about CSS. You went a bit more informative with it and it’s given me some ideas on how I could go back and edit my post if I choose to revise it.

One thing I would have enjoyed reading about is how you would argue you’re bilingual now that you “know” HTML and CSS. You can’t just bring it up and then leave me hanging, but overall, your post gave me some good ideas on how to revise.

I love that I am not the only one who found this new “friend” of HTML to be a tad overwhelming. I appreciate your stress and brain melting over HTML, because I was starting to think I was the only one that didn’t get it. That unfortunately sucks for us, but at least we are together in the process of not knowing.

On the other hand, I love how you describe CSS. You got all the key points of what it has to offer, and you wrote it in a very clear and effective way. I appreciated your mini analysis over it. I feel like even though I knew what CSS was, I wasn’t 100% knowledgeable on the basics of the language.

Speaking of languages, I would say by the end of this course we can say we are bilingual. I have said it once and many other times, HTML and CSS is like learning a completely new language. So, we deserve that right.

Nah, knowing CSS and HTML actually makes you trilingual.

I really like your point about HTML just being the white paper we used in high school, and CSS being the avenue to spice that white paper up with glitter and glue. I think that lends itself to the larger point that raw communication/writing skill alone isn’t enough anymore. We need a solid presentation and a certain amount of glamour as well.
