One of my favorite quotes is stated from Doctor Otto Octavius from Spiderman 2, “Intelligence is not a privilege, it is a gift. And you use it for the good of mankind.” Artificial intelligence is something we should be using to help better ourselves, and I agree that Markdown is an example of how we can use new technology for the better. If Big Tech companies decided to change the way the world uses AI, it would take a lot of convincing and persuasion for many to accept these new guidelines; however, forging fake articles is a good reason to make a change. AI is too big and relied on too heavily, and used differently as well, that it is almost impossible to use Markdown as an example.

As someone who feels particularly technologically incapable, it was really interesting to see just how important the work of “average” people could play on the internet. I will say that I do agree that we see a lot of stuff behind paywalls, and that is a technological shift that even I have noticed. Even the small things like free apps where you can actually use it without a subscription seem like a thing of the past. I really like your points about how AI could be different if it was a more community-oriented technology. It is interesting, though, that OpenAI of all companies started out with a goal to ensure that AI wouldn’t become almost exactly what it is today. If only there was a way to have upheld that goal, who knows where we would be.
