I think the psychological dichotomy you mention does line up in adulthood. Why would I understand what I’m doing if I know I can get a result by doing it easier? I also agree that this does become very reflective of the class system we live in. If there is no way to change the way we see and use technology (because we do not feel we have the tools to understand how to do so), then why change it? We have been forced into feeding into the same five companies because they have made our lives just easy enough that we have become complaisant and unable to question what has been put in front of us. The most understandable version of this for a lot of people is Apple and I-products. Having an Apple ecosystem is great! Until it very much is not, simply because you have to interact with a computer made by another company. One of the most frustrating ideas to me is that simple layouts are more accessible than complex ones, but companies just needed everything to look nice, now all of a sudden they have to add accessibility features specifically to target the things they themselves “needed” to implement. In addition, beyond the general horrors of corporations, it was so crazy to learn about how coders are genuinely people who want to do good and create good but are stuck in the same situation everyone else it ~ create for money or don’t create at all.
