The continuous search for relevant information becomes harder and harder to find due to the sheer scope of the internet. It seems like the only way of truly having access to content is through pirating. Even in the academic landscape, scarce information can call for ways to circumvent or replace it. All this tells me is that people will find a way to access content if they really want it. But even so, there is no reason for content to be that inaccessible except for the need to make a profit. When you’re being bled dry like that, it’s understandable to lose faith in academics.

I agree that there is an overwhelming amount of nonsense essentially crowding out the good. The internet has so much space for good and meaningful content, but we have gotten pulled into a space of anger and high emotion, applying it to mostly fictional or exaggerated scenarios instead of the real world where it is needed. One thing I actually do enjoy is people gaming the system a bit where they feed “bad” content into the algorithm that affects the quality of AI output. The idea is to, theoretically, make it so that AI is unusable, but if people are using it at the quality it is currently at, I don’t know that it will make that much of a difference.

You have to secure funding for your research, which means you have to appeal to institutions that only care about the quantity and prestige of the work you do.
This issue is also related to healthcare. Women’s health and bodies are not studied because nobody cares enough to fund that research. There are plenty of other reasons for this too, but still. There is no incentive for these institutions to change. If you want to go to college, they all treat information the same. You definitely have to interact with the medical system at some time in your life.
