I agree with you that the first article had some great insight and design aspects, I always appreciate when video examples and quotes are included. I think a huge part of research or theory, social phenomena, etc.. is grounding the research in lived experience/spoken word so it was nice to read an article that also appreciated those aspects of research. And, as you mention, research grounded in experience helps open an avenue of relatability between the author and readers.

I do think it’s worth acknowledging that even when the trend is not based in scientific research, the social reaction is enough to make sense of the topic at hand. The trend has been tagged in videos easily over a million times, across multiple platforms. I think the lack of scientific research backing the topic of women feeling hot or empowered in their own spaces/being poses the larger question of why is this not backed in science, even though it has been so true for women online. I think the fact that you considered what audiences each article was trying to target or reach for is a very important factor when it comes to writing. However, the physical design of the article is also very important and there is a lot that can be done physically or stylistically that distinguishes the articles for their different audiences. You mention specifically the article about gamers having visuals and the style choices are with gamers in mind. Understanding that there is a certain audience for specific pieces helps the writing stronger in content but also visuals.
