I think a large part of this is the constant need for engagement to boost content; the more angry or sad a video makes someone the more likely they are to comment, share, etc… As you note, this emotional engagement can come with problems, but it can also make you a better researcher and philosopher if you learn how to channel these emotions properly. When we become aware of what emotions are being evoked by certain pieces of content, we become aware of what needs to be verified; or at least what we should follow up with before reacting too heavily.
