The Last Stretch

This week is more of a work week in class where we submit a final project and start working on a new one. It is a transitional week where I find myself ready to be fully immersed in final projects. It feels so satisfying to be at the end of the semester. This is my last fall semester before I graduate, so I am soaking up the slow turn from fall to winter on campus, and that includes closing projects!

I had a lot of fun researching and writing Verification Quest. I am very pleased with how my final draft came out, though there were some aspects that I was not able to accomplish. I could not figure out how to overlay text onto an image for the life of me. I tried every which way, and honestly it has to be user error at this point. Despite not being able to figure that out, I really like the way it came out. I’m excited to dive into the CSS for Interactive Nonfiction.

I think I’ve become a little too ambitious/confident in my abilities to implement CSS in this project. I’ll HAVE to figure out how to overlay text if I am going to accomplish what I want to. I just hope I can figure out the subtle differences in SugarCube. It would be so helpful if Twine was collaborative like Canva or Google Docs. It has been a hurdle for my group to figure out how to work on our project without all having access to it at the same time. It makes the process a little awkward and disjointed. It has been super important to stay in communication with my group. I just recently learned how to set up my own Zoom meetings, and that has been super helpful.

This project has required a ton of research. I feel like I’ve done a bunch of background work, but don’t have a lot to show for it yet. I’m excited to see how it all comes together in the end. The PWR Student Showcase is this week, and I think my group and I will have the start of our game finished, or at least have it somewhat functioning. I have been so curious as to what my classmates have decided on for their games, so I look forward to what they have accomplished with both the game and the Verified project. The end of the semester has gotten here so fast! Good luck to everybody as we make the last stretch!

I completely understand the feeling of being in the final stretch of the semester, it feels so nice! Congrats on your final fall semester, by the way!! I’m glad you had a good time researching for the Verification Quest. I think it was one of those projects that put everyone into a flow state: not a strenuous amount of work, but just enough to keep us engaged.

You hit the nail on the head mentioning that Twine should be collaborative. Having to send documents back and forth and trying to make everything work and look good on both ends has been a hassle for our group as well.
