This week, after reading about mark down language, I feel a bit intimidated. This is not something I’m super familiar with, and it seemed, and still seems, kind of confusing. However, I also find mark down language and its history very interesting. It seems to be a very efficient way of communicating digitally, which is something I’ve recently become interested in. I feel it’s very important for my career as a filmmaker, for all stages of film production. I think I have become less intimidated by over it the past couple of days and giving it more thought. I like how versatile it is which I know can come handy in the future. When it comes to the history, what I found most interesting is that it’s creator didn’t seem to care about being paid for the idea. He was more worried about markdown language being accessible rather than making a profit from it. So what really stood out to me is that a lot of tech innovations didn’t come from famous billionaires but rather from common, working class people. I think when innovations come from the “common” person it can be more meaningful and useful.
Another reading that stood out to me was the article that discussed how AI is creating sources and papers that don’t exist. What was most shocking to me is how people are using these sources innocently, being unaware that they aren’t real, even when these academics aren’t using Chat GPT or other AI resources. It’s scary how even me or one of my peers could fall victim to this if we are not careful enough. I really do not care for the use of AI so after reading this piece I will make sure to be extra careful when gathering sources for future papers.
I think after the readings the only thing I am going to have to review or give more thought is the concept of Rhetorical Velocity and Delivery. I wasn’t necessarily confused by the article, it’s just not something that clicked on the first read. I found many aspects of it interesting but I think it’s something I need to come back to to fully understand the concepts it is discussing.
These readings will be very applicable to my own life. Everything I do is digitally and these articles offered lots of insight to things I consider in my everyday life, especially when it comes to academics.
