Diving into the inner-workings of the Jim Carrey clone scandal (if we can even really call it that), is becoming so interesting to me. It was a very simple story to me at first. Someone claimed to be Jim Carrey due to his poor botox and unforrtunate plastic surgery results and the internet as it does run wild with it. However, as I dive into it deeper I’m realizing how much can really go into investigating a topic or verifying it as Mike Caufield might suggest.
There were so many moving pieces that went into the issue to begin with. Jim Carrey lives a pretty private life that a lot of people are supposedly very against or at least look down upon it. People or “fans” get very demanding with celebrities like this and it makes you wonder if these so-called fans ever actually watched The Truman Show… Since Jim Carrey lives such a private life people tend to really pay attention when he does make an appearance which is why his appearance at the award show in Paris was so important to people.
Another factor that goes into this has a lot to do with media literacy. As easy as it is to say “just don’t be dumb” when it comes to conspiracy theories there is a lot that goes on. Jim Carrey did say in an interview about his distaste for paparazzi that he cloned himself to do the press for him. This was in an interview about a decade ago. Jim Carrey, as a comedian, makes many jokes often targeted towards his dislike for paparazzi and their invading and often predatory nature. However people took his words and once again ran with it.
There is also the inevitable role that Artifical Intelligence, and more specifically generative artificial intelligence, has in this. The original stirring of the pot comes from Alexis Stone a drag performer who specificalizes in celebrity look-a-like makeup. Alexis Stone posted a photo that was (in my opinion) very clearly generated with AI. However, the lack of patience and understanding a lot of people have still surrounding diferaneitating real and AI photos was highlighted. A post that was a joke, made in poor taste, stirred the pot for many individuals that were already prone to believe Jim Carrey’s cloning incident.
I am still uncovering a lot more information. I am starting to scrape the surface of what looks to be a large underlying conspiracy that the entertainment industry or even the government is trying to silence Jim Carrey from revealing apparently very dark and important secrets. Although these sound ridiculous, with the entire mythos that has been cultivated with the P. Diddy case and the Epstien files adds fuel to the fire of suspicion and misinformation.
